General Parking Questions

RDU has a parking garage between Terminals 1 and 2, and two Park Economy parking facilities located near the North and South airport entrances.

Please go to www.rdu.com/maps-and-directions for a map of where the parking facilities are located within the airport.

There are four parking options available at RDU.

· Park Premier parking is located on the first floor in the parking garage between Terminals 1 and 2. This area provides covered parking located within a short walking distance to both Terminals.

· Park Central parking is the garage between Terminals 1 and 2 that is a great long-term parking option close to the terminals. Park Central may also be used for meeting or accompanying passengers inside the terminals, or for other visits.

· Park Economy 3 parking facility offers an economical long-term option with more than 3,820 spaces and is just a short shuttle ride to the terminals.

· Park Economy 4 parking facility offers the most economical long-term option with 2,733 spaces and is just a short shuttle ride to the terminals.

There are three parking options available at RDU.

  • Park Premier parking is located on the first floor in the parking garage between Terminals 1 and 2. This area provides covered parking located within a short walking distance to both Terminals.
  • Park Central parking is the garage between Terminals 1 and 2 that is a great long-term parking option close to the terminals. Park Central may also be used for meeting or accompanying passengers inside the terminals, or for other visits.
  • Park Economy parking facilities offer an economical long-term option with more than 6,500 spaces just a short shuttle ride to the terminals.

At the parking entry plaza, signs above each entry lane indicate the type of parking and the rates for that location. If you booked online, your confirmation will indicate the parking product that you’ve chosen. If you enter a lot in error, drive to the exit and follow the signs that say “Return to Parking” to re-enter the appropriate lot. Visits under 15 minutes are free.

If you have booked online, the appropriate parking facility will still have a reserved parking space for you even if it is marked full. If you have not booked online and all Park Central spaces are full, you have the option of parking in the Park Premier parking section located in the main parking garage at the Park Premier rates, or you can follow the overhead signage to one of the Park Economy parking facilities.

Booking online in advance is the best way to ensure your Park Central or Park Premier space will be available.

Travel time from the Park Central or Park Premier parking facilities to the Park Economy 3 lot is approximately 5 minutes, and travel time to the Park Economy 4 lot is approximately 7 minutes.

Handicapped parking spaces are provided in the Park Premier facility and on all floors of our Park Central parking garage in close proximity to the elevators. Additionally, our Park Economy parking facilities offer handicapped parking spaces located next to the bus shelters. The Airport Authority does not provide a discount for handicapped parking spaces.

We will need details of which parking lot/product you used, when you entered and exited the parking lot, your license plate number and any back up documentation you may have, such as parking tickets or receipts or online booking documentation.

Yes, you can appeal a parking ticket received at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. This appeal process is for RDU Ordinance violations and does not apply to moving violations given by RDU Police. If you wish to appeal the fees, charges, or penalties assessed for the noted violation you must submit your appeal in writing. Submit a clear and complete written statement describing your situation. Mail your statement and any supporting evidence within five (5) days from the date of issuance of the charge to Airport Authority Appeals Officer, Post Office Box 80001, RDU Airport, NC 27623-0001 or submit by email to appeals.officer@rdu.com.

Proceed to the parking exit plaza and utilize the cashier assistance lane. You will need to provide your driver’s license and contact information to the attendant on duty who will then assist you further the with lost ticket process.

RDU provides shuttle bus service from both of its Park Economy parking facilities to both terminal buildings. If you are traveling from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 look for the Park Economy 3 lot shuttle buses. If you are traveling from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 look for the Park Economy 4 lot shuttle buses.

Customers may also walk between the two terminal buildings via the walkway the goes through the main parking garage.

On average the busses run on a 12-minute schedule from the Park Economy parking facilities.

The Park Economy 3 lot is approximately 7 minutes to Terminal 1 and 10 minutes to Terminal 2 by shuttle bus. Shuttle buses run approximately every 12 minutes.

The Park Economy 4 lot is approximately 5 minutes to Terminal 2 and 10 minutes to Terminal 1 by shuttle bus. Shuttle buses run approximately every 12 minutes.

Each shuttle bus stops at both terminals.

No, however the bus shelters are covered.

Yes, you can park your motorcycle in any marked parking stall. All prevailing parking rates apply to motorcycle parking.

There is no area allocated for secured bicycle parking.

The Authority has height restrictions based on the physical limitations of the Park Premier and the Park Central facilities. The Park Premier facility accepts small cars and light vehicles up to nine (9) feet in height and no longer than twenty (20) feet in length. The Park Central facility accepts small cars and light vehicles up to seven and a half (7 ½) feet in height and no longer than twenty (20) feet in length. Please contact the Parking Department if you wish to make special arrangements to park a larger vehicle. Oversize vehicle parking is available in the Authority’s Park Economy facilities. High, long and extra-large vehicles must be parked in the Park Economy parking facilities.

You may pay with cash at the staffed assistance lanes in the Terminal Parking and in the Park Economy 3 parking facilities only. The Park Economy 4 parking facility is a credit card in/out facility and it can only be accessed with a credit card.

Debit cards are accepted by all of our automated pay stations, unmanned exit lanes, and cashiers, provided they can be used as a credit card (Visa or MasterCard logo).

Contactless Payment is not accepted.

You may park in Park Premier or Park Central parking to pick up and drop off passengers in the terminals. Any stays less than 15 minutes after entry are free; prevailing parking rates take affect after that grace time has expired.

No, the Authority does not currently have dedicated charging facilities for electric vehicles.

Online Booking Questions

You must use only the RDU parking facility specified in your online booking. When you book online for any RDU parking facility, there is not a specific space reserved for you, however, there will always be a space available for you in the facility you booked.

Yes, you may use a debit card to pay for your online booking if it has the Visa or MasterCard logo and can be used as a credit card.

You will still be able to enter the parking facility you booked if you have a different vehicle or different license plate from the one you designated online. You do not need to update this on your booking in order to park your car. You only need the QR code print out from your booking confirmation.

Providing your license plate number will allow the Authority to match your license plate to your booking details and provide a quick solution should you lose your QR code or encounter a problem.

If paying at one of the Pay-On-Foot machines on the way to the parking garage, please select the receipt button when prompted and one will be issued to you at the end of the transaction.

If paying at one of the final exit gates, a receipt for your transaction is automatically generated by the exit reader when you remove your card after your transaction is completed.

You may also request a receipt from the cashier on duty at any of the staffed exit lanes.

If you have already exited one of the parking facilities and need a receipt please contact the Parking Department at (919) 840-2140 or at rduparking@rdu.com.

If you have purchased Cancellation Protection you may contact the Authority and request a refund for shorter stays. Refunds are not provided if you have not purchased Cancellation Protection.

Simply insert your credit card into the machine when you exit any parking facility and it will automatically calculate the difference in price between your existing booking and the additional time, and you will then be charged accordingly.

Park Premier parking provides you with the closest, most convenient self-park spaces available in the Terminal parking garage, on level 1, just a short and completely covered walk to your terminal and airline.

Entry and exit is also quick and easy – you will see a dedicated entry lane to the far right of the main entry plaza as well as dedicated exits with quick access to the main exit roadway.

If you have purchased Cancellation Protection, you can change or modify your booking at any time without penalty. Customers who have purchased Cancellation Protection may contact the Authority to obtain a refund for any unused portion of their original booking. Refunds are only made to the credit card that paid for the booking.

In the event of an airline flight cancellation or delay at the beginning of your booking period that affects your day of departure, upon notification, the Authority will modify your original booking with no penalty.

You may cancel for any reason and obtain a refund at any time up to 24 hours before the start of your booking by logging into your account and selecting the relevant options. You will be charged in full for your booking if you have not cancelled it earlier than 24 hours before your reservation arrival time unless you purchased Cancellation Protection during your original booking.

If you do not have an online account or you have been unable to successfully cancel your booking via your online account, then you may cancel your booking by emailing rduparking@rdu.com and providing your full name, address, and booking confirmation number or calling our customer service operator at (919) 840-2140 at any time up to 24 hours before the start of the booking period. Please note our customer service operator is generally on duty from 8am to 8pm during the week and may not be available at all times.

Cancellation Protection allows you to change, cancel, or change your booking at any time, and for any reason without penalty. Customers can receive a refund on any unused portion of their original booking. The cost of the Cancellation Protection is nonrefundable.

Your credit card will be charged at the time of booking to confirm your special price for advance payment.

No, handicapped parking is available for holders of valid permits or license plates in all of our parking facilities. Handicapped parking cannot be specifically reserved in advance.

Yes, it is possible to change or cancel a booking up to twenty-four (24) hours in advance of your booking arrival time. To do so, visit the 'Manage My Booking' section, located under ‘Parking' on the Raleigh-Durham International Airport homepage www.parkrdu.com. If you have purchased Cancellation Protection you may change or cancel your booking at any time.

You will need the booking reference number from your booking confirmation and the email address you provided during the booking process in order to access your booking information. You can change/cancel your booking up to 24 hours in advance of your parking entry date and time.

If you decide to extend your online booking, this will be treated as a new booking. The prices charged for the new booking will be based on spaces and products available at that point and may not include the same prices as offered when the initial booking was made.

Please bring the following with you to in order to ensure your online booking is recognized:

  • Drive the car bearing the same license plate details you provided when making the booking
  • Bring your printed reservation form with the QR code on it or have your QR code available on any mobile device
  • Bring the same credit card used to make the booking

Drive to your pre-booked parking facility. Stop at the entry barrier and scan your booking confirmation QR code using the Barcode/QR code reader on the entry ticket dispenser.

At all parking facility entries: If, upon your arrival at your pre-booked parking facility entrance, the barrier does not rise after presenting your QR code:

DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTON FOR A TICKET .

Insert the same credit card used to make the original booking into the card slot in the entry device. The barrier will then rise. Drive into the parking facility and follow signs to the parking zones.

At the parking facility exits: Scan your booking confirmation QR code using the Barcode/QR code reader on the exit device. If the gate does not open, insert the same credit card used to make the online booking into the card slot at the exit gate. The barrier will then rise.

In the event that you touched the white ticket button upon entry to the parking facility, a ticket will be issued and the system will assume you have no pre-booked reservation. Upon your return to RDU and before returning to your car use this ticket to pay for your parking at any Pay-on-Foot station.

On completion of the online booking process you will:

  • Receive your booking confirmation notice while you are still online
  • Receive an email confirmation at the email address you provided when making the online booking

These confirmations provide the details of your booking and include your unique booking reference number.

Please repeat the process from the beginning and ensure that you have followed the procedures described. The system will prompt you in the case of any errors. The system will advise if pre-booked parking is available on your selected dates.

In the payment details section, ensure that you have clicked on the box for 'I have read and accept the Terms and Conditions' to confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.

The system will accept online bookings up until 24 hours prior to the expected time of arrival at the selected parking facility.

When you arrive at the parking facility exit gate, the parking system device will read your QR code, check your booking, and calculate the duration of your stay. If you have over-stayed your booking, the system establishes whether any additional fee is due. If an additional fee is due, you will be required to insert a credit card to pay the fee for the over-stay.

Your credit/debit card will be charged the appropriate fee for the additional time based on the drive-up rate applicable on the date of your departure from any parking facility.

Making your parking booking online

  1. Log on to www.ParkRDU.com to begin the booking process.
  2. To get a 'Quick Quote' insert your date and time of arrival at the parking facility and your date and time of departure from the parking facility into the boxes provided.
  3. Click on the 'Search' button.
  4. The system will check parking availability for the dates and times specified by you and, if parking is available, will:
    • Calculate the duration of your expected stay
    • Display the list of products and facilities available for your booking time frame.
    • Display the applicable parking fee for each product/parking facility with parking available during your planned visit
  5. Check that the dates and times shown in the box above Parking Fee are correct. If any of the information is not correct click on the 'Back' button to return to the 'Quick Quote' page.

    For information about each of the parking facilities available during your planned visit, click on the name of the parking facility and read the information page carefully. You are advised to print (click on the 'Print' button at the end of the page) and retain a copy of this document for your selected parking facility. Click on the 'Close' button when you have read the document.
  6. If the parking facility, dates, times and parking fee displayed are correct click on the 'Book' button in the box specific for your parking facility/product of choice in order to finalize your booking. Otherwise click on 'Back' button to return to the 'Quick Quote' page.
  7. Complete the 'Personal Details' section by providing the required information in the boxes provided. Note that you can save your personal details for future bookings by clicking on the box on the right hand side. Please ensure that the details you provide are correct.

    You will be required to enter the license plate details of the vehicle you will bring to the parking facility.

    Please ensure that the license plate details you enter are those of the actual car you will use on the day.
  8. Complete the 'Payment Details' section by providing the required information into the appropriate boxes. Please ensure that the details you provide are correct.
  9. Click on the 'Terms and Conditions' link and carefully read the document presented. Confirm that you have read the Terms and Conditions and that you agree to be bound by them by clicking on the box for 'I have read and accept the Terms and Conditions'.
  10. The system will validate your credit card details and once approval is received, will automatically issue a formal booking confirmation while you are still online. You should print and retain a copy of this booking confirmation as it includes details of your booking and your unique booking reference number. This reference number will be needed if for any reason you need to view, change or cancel your booking.
  11. Please click on the customer survey link at the bottom of the booking confirmation page. We would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to complete this online survey designed to help the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority continue to enhance and improve parking services for our customers.

In this case, the booking has not been completed successfully and the process should be carefully repeated.

If you completed the online process successfully but did not receive an email confirmation, please ensure that your system is not blocking the email or classifying it as Spam.

Please make sure to write down your booking reference number. Using this number, you can check your booking online any time before you travel and can change or cancel the booking at any time up to 24 hours before your planned arrival time at the parking facility.

Online booking is currently available for Premier, Central, Economy 3 and Economy 4.

No, you cannot specifically book handicapped parking online. You may utilize a handicapped parking space, with the correct credentials, upon your arrival at the parking facility with an online booking.

No, you cannot reserve a specific parking space. However, by booking parking online you ensure that there will be a parking space available for you at the time and date indicated in your booking.

You may make a booking as early as six (6) months in advance and as late as 24 hours in advance of your planned arrival date/time at a parking facility of your choice.

The minimum stay that can be booked online is twenty-four (24) hours.

The maximum stay is sixty (60) days in all of our parking facilities without prior notification to the Parking Department. If you will be traveling longer please contact the Parking Department by emailing rduparking@rdu.com or by calling our customer service operator at (919) 840-2140 Monday thru Friday, from 9am to 5pm for assistance.

The details you provide are encrypted to prevent them being accessed. This is indicated by the GeoTrust icon on the ParkRDU website. You can click on the icon for more details.

Only products that are available for the time frame you have booked will be shown. The particular product may be sold out for the time frame you entered or may not otherwise be available (e.g. a weekend product will only be available for a Friday or Saturday entry).

Customers are able to go to the Manage My Booking icon on the ParkRDU.com web page, log in, and change their booking until 24 hours before the start of the booking period.

Payment for your online parking booking

  • The parking charge for the Park Economy 4 lot is $6 per day and the Park Economy 3 lot is $7 per day.
  • Full parking rate information can be found by going to www.rdu.com/parking.

The normal parking rates for the Park Premier facility is $3 per hour for the first four hours then $6 for the fifth hour to reach the daily max of $18 per 24 hour period.

The normal parking rates for the Park Central facility is $2 per hour for the first four hours then $6 for the fifth hour to reach the daily max of $14 per 24 hour period.

Full parking rate information can be found by www.rdu.com/parking.

Online parking rates are calculated only in 24 hour portions, so the charges are on a per-day/24 hour basis. RDU offers per day rates for all of its Terminal Parking. Your exit time will be extended to give you the full benefit of the per-day parking rate. There is no additional cost for this extra time.

Example: Park Central Parking

Enter parking garage: 9am Monday

Exit parking garage: 12am Wednesday

Pre-booked parking charge: $24.00 ($12.00 discounted rate per day)

In the example above, your exit time will be extended to 9am on Wednesday, therefore allowing you to depart the parking garage anytime up until then without incurring an additional parking charge for this extra time.

Get the best online price by pre-booking your parking well in advance of your parking facility entry date. Demand is high for our lowest priced offers and they sell out quickly so the lowest price offered on one day may vary from what you see on a different day. Our on-line booking rates are subject to change but are always lower than the current posted parking rates. The quoted rate is only valid at the time you get your quote.

No, there are no taxes applied for parking at Raleigh-Durham International.

Yes, you may use the same card for multiple bookings provided none of the Booking Periods overlap. You must not use the same card for multiple reservations when bookings overlap.

The foreign exchange rate charged to your credit card is applied at the time you make your online booking. This exchange rate is set by your credit card company. The Authority receives payment for your online booking only in US dollars.

Should you subsequently change your booking or otherwise become eligible for a refund for all or part of the pre-booking payment, the Authority will refund the appropriate US dollar amount to your card account. The foreign exchange rate on any such refund will be set by your card company. The Authority does not accept responsibility for the effects, positive or negative, of any fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.

Managing your online parking booking

There is no fee for changing or cancelling your booking prior to 24 hours of your scheduled arrival time.

Cancellation Protection allows you to change or cancel your booking for any reason at any time without penalty. Upon request you will get a full refund on any unused portions of your booking fees. The cost of Cancellation Protection is nonrefundable.

You can Purchase Cancellation Protection to guarantee a refund in case you need to cancel your parking booking for any reason. Cancellation Protection can be purchased online when you make your parking booking.

To purchase Cancellation Protection simply select the Check Box “Yes, I want Cancellation Protection” on Step 4 “Your Information” of the booking journey. Your itemized billing total will reflect the Cancellation Protection cost. You can also add Cancellation Protection to an existing booking by selecting Manage My Booking as long as you make the purchase before 24 hours prior to your schedule arrival.

It is valid from the time of purchase until the end of your scheduled booking period.

No, if you purchased Cancellation Protection and you cancel your parking booking within the required time frame, you can process a refund to the credit card used for the booking payment. Your refund will not include the Cancellation Protection fee.

If you cancel your parking booking within 24 hours of your scheduled arrival you will not receive a refund unless you have purchased Cancellation Protection.

Before traveling to any RDU parking facility

Your booking reference number is only required if you want to review, change or cancel your booking online before you travel. It is not required to enter or exit the parking areas.

The Park Premier parking garage accommodates standard family cars, SUVs, etc. subject to height restrictions. The maximum permitted height in the garage is 7’5”. The garage does not accommodate large commercial vehicles, campers, or vehicles with trailers attached.

The Park Economy parking facilities accommodate standard family cars, SUV’s, large commercial vehicles, campers, and vehicles with trailers attached. No height restrictions apply in the Park Economy facilities. Oversized vehicles should follow the signs located within the Park Economy parking facilities for designated parking areas.

The system will recognize your online booking up to two hours in advance of your expected time of arrival and up to 2 hours following your expected time of arrival. For example, if you booked to arrive at 10am, the system will recognize your booking and allow you to enter the parking lot at any time between 8am and 10pm on the pre-booked arrival day.

The 'Full' sign is for customers who have not pre-booked their parking online.

Drive to the parking entry barrier. Present your QR code and the system will read your QR code. Provided the QR code details match those in your booking the barrier will rise and you may enter the parking facility. Should this fail for any reason, use the intercom button located on the entry device and a representative will assist you in gaining entry.

When you arrive at your parking facility, the primary identifier for your pre-booking is your QR code so the system should recognize your booking based on that. At the parking facility entry ensure the QR code is presented correctly to the reader provided at the entry device. If your QR code is not recognized, use the intercom button located on the entry device and a representative will assist you in gaining entry.

At each parking facility exit make sure your QR code is the same code used to enter the facility and that it is presented to the reader on the exit device correctly. If the QR code still fails, use the intercom button located on the exit device and a representative will assist you in exiting the facility.

Once your QR code is detected exiting the parking facility, your online booking will be treated as being complete. Should you re-enter the parking facility, this will be treated as the start of a new drive-up transaction. Current posted parking rates will then apply.

If you re-enter the parking facility:

Press the button and take a ticket. Before returning to your car use this ticket to pay for your parking at any Pay-on-Foot station or pay at an exit lane as you exit the parking facility.

For departing passengers, the shuttle bus service operates from each shuttle bus stop located within both Park Economy facilities. These shuttles will make stops at both terminal buildings. It is only a short walk from the shuttle bus drop off area to the terminal.

For returning passengers the shuttle bus service operates from both terminal buildings. The shuttle bus pickup area is located on the outer curbs in front of the terminal buildings.

All buses are wheelchair accessible.

The Park Economy 3 lot shuttle operates 24 hours a day/seven (7) days a week. This bus service operates on a 12-minute frequency.

The Park Economy 4 lot shuttle operates 24 hours a day/seven (7) days a week. This bus service operates on a 12-minute frequency.

The Parking Department provides courtesy jump starts and air for our customers on a staff available basis. To request assistance you may contact help using an intercom on any of the automated pay stations, or any of the blue assistance phones located throughout the parking garage or by calling (919) 840-7510.

Proceed to one of the assistance/cashier lanes. Parking staff will assist you in exiting. Please be prepared to provide a valid driver’s license to complete this paper work. If you do not have your valid driver’s license, Law Enforcement will be contacted to verify that you’re the registered owner of the vehicle.
